Windows 11 Game Mode: What to Check Before Tweaking Anything
Game Mode is a sensible baseline, but it is not a magic performance switch. The useful part is knowing what Windows is actually doing.

1. Check Game Mode
Open Settings and search for Game Mode. Confirm that it is enabled, then test your game normally. Do not change several unrelated settings at the same time.
2. Check graphics preferences
Windows lets you choose graphics preferences for individual applications. Verify that the correct game executable is being used and that your intended GPU is selected on systems with multiple graphics processors.
3. Measure before and after
Record average FPS, 1% lows and frametime in the same scene. A higher average with worse frame pacing may feel worse than a slightly lower average with stable delivery.
4. Revert changes that do not help
Optimization is system-specific. If a change does not improve your measured result or introduces instability, return to the previous configuration.
Bottom line
Start with a clean Windows baseline, current drivers and repeatable testing. Advanced tweaks should come later, not first.
